EXCLUSIVE: Southeast Asia Private Banking Head Steps Down From Major Regional Player

The private banking head for Southeast Asia at Australia and New Zealand Banking Group has left , this publication can exclusively report.
Kevin Ong, head of the private bank for Southeast Asia, has “decided to leave the banking industry and as a result will be leaving ANZ”, according to a memo sent to staff from Bret Packard, managing director, global wealth Asia, and which has been sent to WealthBriefingAsia.
“During his time with ANZ, Kevin has been a valued member of the private bank Asia leadership team and has helped us lay the foundation for continued growth in Asia. We would like to acknowledge and thank Kevin for the contribution he has made to the business and we wish him all the best for the future,” the memo continued.
“Amresh Acharya will act as head of private bank, Southeast Asia while we work through the recruitment process to replace this role,” Packard said.
In March this year, as a result of a reorganisation of its private banking and wealth teams in Asia, Packard – as mentioned above - took on the role of leading private banking in the region. The departure of Manfred Liechti, global head of private banking at ANZ, was exclusively reported by this publication late in February. Liechti has been in the industry for more than 25 years and had spent most of his career at UBS, joining ANZ in 2013.
